Recap records lectures and turns them into notes, a quiz and a chat you can ask questions of. This page explains exactly what that means for your data, in plain terms.
The short version. Recap does not ask for your name or email. Your lecture audio is uploaded only to be transcribed, and is deleted from our servers once your notes are written — the only lasting copy stays on your phone. We do not sell your data, show ads, or use your lectures to train AI models.

Recap creates an anonymous account the first time you open it. That account is a random identifier — it has no name, email address or phone number attached, and we never ask you for any. There is no sign-up, no password, and no way to log in, because there is nothing to log in to.
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card details. We store only what is needed to know that you are subscribed: Apple's transaction identifier, which plan you bought, whether you are in a free trial, and when the subscription renews or expires.
Recap does not collect your contacts, photos, location, or advertising identifiers. There is no advertising in Recap and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
Audio is deleted from our servers once it has been transcribed. After your notes, chapters and quiz are generated and safely stored, the audio files are removed. A scheduled job also sweeps up any audio left behind by an interrupted upload.
The copy on your phone is kept so you can play a lecture back and jump to a cited moment — playback happens from your device, not from our servers. Deleting a lecture in the app deletes both the local audio and everything stored for it on our side.
We keep audio while a lecture is still recording or still being processed, and delete it as soon as that finishes. Audio belonging to a lecture that was abandoned or failed is removed automatically.
A lecture recording will normally contain your lecturer's voice, and may contain classmates. We process that audio only to produce a transcript for you, and delete it as described above. We do not use it to identify anyone, and we do not build voice profiles.
You are responsible for making sure you are allowed to record. Recording rules differ by country and by institution — see our Terms of Use.
We do not use your lectures, transcripts or notes to train AI models, and we do not sell or rent your data to anyone.
Recap relies on a small number of providers. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of users and of the service.
Important, because your account is anonymous. Your account lives on your device. If you delete the app, we have no way to identify you or restore your lectures — there is no email or password linking them to you. Your Support ID is shown in Settings; keep a copy if you may need support later.
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to stored data is restricted to the Recap service using server-side credentials; the app itself cannot read other users' data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Recap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has used Recap, contact us and we will delete the account.
Recap is operated from, and its data is processed on, servers located in the United States and Europe. Using Recap means your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations.
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app.
